Our Executive Team

The KWS leadership team comprises individuals who possess a wealth of experience in the management of schools and the varied aspects of education. The leadership team includes the Chief Executive Officer, Head of Education, Deputy Head (Principal), Heads of Primary, Middle and Secondary School, Head of Professional Development of the KWS Learning Centre. The team is responsible for designing and delivering of high quality education and services as envisioned in the vision and mission of the school.


Dr. Rajendra K. Ghising

Chief Executive Officer

Rajendra K. Ghising has been involved from the very inception of Kathmandu World school in providing inputs for the design and development of the school infrastructure and facilities as well as developing its vision, mission and policies. Before he joined Kathmandu World School, he was associated for more than two decades with GEMS school, and in his capacity as the Chief Executive Officer for the last eight years, he was the principal architect in the areas of financial management, strategic planning and execution as well as new business developments.

He has an MBA from Ace Institute of Management, Pokhara University, Nepal and Ph. D. in Management from Angeles University, Philippines. In addition, he is a Kaplan–Norton Balanced Scorecard Certified Graduate of the Palladium, USA. He has attended some Executive Education trainings such as Advanced Strategic Management in IMD Business School, Switzerland, one of the leading business schools in the world, Strategy Development for Successful Execution, Kaplan–Norton Master Class, etc. administered by the Palladium, USA.

Mr. Ghising has a wealth of experience in academic administration and management of education institutes, particularly private schools and colleges. He has visited several international schools in India, Singapore, Malaysia and United Kingdom, and gained an in-depth understanding of school infrastructure, facilities, systems and pedagogic principles. He strongly believes in continuous learning and innovation, and holds a deep commitment to the KWS mission, values and learning principles.


Dr. Rajeev Chhetri

Principal

The Principal, Dr. Rajeev Chhetri, joined Kathmandu World School in May 2018, bringing along a long-standing experience of over two decades as an academician and academic administrator in reputed educational institutes of the Kathmandu Valley.

He started his career from National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), and was associated with NIST till 2007 as the Programme Coordinator of the Science Stream. In the year 2008, he was appointed the Academic Head of GEMS Institute of Higher Education. He was responsible for overseeing the academic of Plus 2, A-Levels and BS-MD (Bachelor of Science leading to a degree in Medicine), a binary programme with Angeles University Foundation, the Philippines. Thereafter, he was associated as the Academic Director of Golden Gate International College, Liverpool International College, and more recently, Patan College for Professional Studies, the academic partner of the University of Bedfordshire, U.K. in Nepal.In the capacity of the Head of Academics in various colleges, he has functioned as the principal architect in planning, executing and monitoring day-to-day operations, and also developed a performance evaluation system for students as well as co-workers in addition to formulating, recommending and implementing new policies to promote progressive trends in higher education.

He earned his doctorate degree (Ph. D.) in Environmental Sciences from Kathmandu University, Nepal and his undergraduate and postgraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Sri Sathya Sai University, India. He has published many research articles in various international and national journals related to his core area of research on Ethnobotany.


Ms. Vani Rana

Vice Principal (Head of Elementary School)

Ms. Vani Rana is the Head of Elementary School (I – VIII). She has extensive experience in teaching and academic administration particularly in the elementary level. She has strong academic foundation, well-honed leadership and teamwork skills and excellent coordination and communication abilities.

Ms. Rana’s academic degrees and trainings include two Master's degrees – one in Educational Leadership from Bank Street College of Education, USA and another in Sociology from TU. She also holds a Professional Development certificate from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, USA specializing in the development of reading-writing abilities in young children. She has participated in many national and international training programmes including the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) training which has given her an insight into international curriculum implementation.

In her previous role as the Elementary School Coordinator at Ullens School, she conducted regular capacity building and professional development trainings for teachers and other school personnel and oversaw the daily management of the elementary school programme (Grade 1-8). She has worked and collaborated numerous times with expatriate consultants/trainers to enhance the teaching-learning environment.

Ms. Rana thoroughly enjoys working in a school environment and regards education as her ‘passion’ and just not a job which is why she keeps updating herself on teaching and learning practices either through readings or by attending trainings.


Mr. San Awale

Head of Administration and Operations

Mr. San Awale is the Head of Administration and Operations at Kathmandu World School. He was involved with various organizations, academic and others, in managerial roles where he was responsible for administrative tasks as well as site management. He has a wealth of experience of working in an international school setting and knows about school administration policies and operational procedures.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Ace Institute of Management, Pokhara University, Nepal.

Prior to joining Kathmandu World School, he was working as an Operations Manager at The British School (TBS), Kathmandu. He also has experience as a Project Manager for a social initiative programme, which ensured the right to education of children living and working in difficult circumstances.


CA. Mahesh Jha

Head of Finance and Account

CA Mahesh Jha is the Head of Finance and Accounts of Kathmandu World School. He is an ICAI certified CA, and also has a BBS degree from Tribhuvan University. He has an indepth knowledge of Finance and Accounts. He has experience of over five years in auditing, accounting and financial analysis. Prior to joining Kathmandu World School, he worked as Manager Finance and Accounts in Panchakanya Group. He has strong communication skills and ability to support and sustain a positive work environment that fosters team performance. His core responsibilities include budgeting, financial planning, cost management, etc.


Dr. Mahendra Thapa

Plus 2 Co-ordinator

Dr. Mahendra Thapa earned his Master’s degree in Chemistry (M.Sc.) from Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal and doctoral degree (Ph. D.) in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Kansas State University, USA in 2007. Having successfully gained his Ph. D., he worked as a Senior Research Scientist at Symmetry Biosciences, North Carolina, USA for three years.

He returned to Nepal in 2015 and worked as the Head of the Department of Chemistry in Uniglobe Higher Secondary School till March 2018. He loves teaching–learning activities, and has been voted the best teacher in Chemistry several times. He has a good understanding of the high school educational system in Nepal and aims to incorporate practical approach to the teaching-learning activities within the classroom to facilitate better understanding. At Kathmandu World School, he is working on developing a team capable of making the high school study in Nepal interesting, productive and fulfilling.

Apart from teaching, he has presented and delivered numerous talks on career counseling and career objectives for high school students throughout the country and abroad. He is also involved in various student outreach programmes as well as social and scientific research based on high school education. He is fond of travelling and meeting new people. He loves playing futsal and listening to music in his free time.
